Police Training InstituteThe Police National Training Institute (PNTI) has played a major role in the training of our country’s policemen. Its long history can be traced from the year 1905, four years after the Americans formally established the Philippine Constabulary for the purpose of enforcing the law and maintaining peace and order. The PNTI is envisioned to become the primary training ground for the professionally competent, morally upright and tecgnically proficient police officers capable of working in close partnership with a responsive community in the preservation of peace, protection of human rights and maintenance of law and order with the end in view of improving the quality of people's lives. To provide continuing training and human resource development programs for the uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police so that they may possess the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary in the exercise of their profession. Police academies exist in every state and at the federal level. Each state has an agency which certifies police academies and their programs. Most states have minimum physical and academic standards for cadets to achieve before they can enter an academy and graduate. There may be additional or higher standards required for later certification as a police officer. While some states allow open enrollment in police academies, many require cadets to be hired by a police department in order to attend. Departments and/or state certifying agencies may also require individuals to pass background checks, psychological evaluations, polygraph exams, drug screenings and qualify with a firearm and demonstrate driving skills, as conditions of employment/certification.
The Los Angeles Police Academy is truly reflective of the City’s historic, yet contemporary, spirit. Used as a setting for the 1932 Olympic Game’s pistol and rifle competitions, the Academy remains a favorite of film makers, whose images of the "Academy Arches" have created a home-town landmark that is recognizable around the world. At the same time, today’s new recruits continue to receive some of the most extensive and innovative police training in the world.
The Los Angeles Police Academy is less than ten minutes from the Civic Center, located in the 21-acre Elysian Park complex. The Academy is nestled in a picturesque setting of fountains, waterfalls, pine trees, and flowers. The classrooms, gymnasium, track, athletic field, obstacle course, and firing range, housed in and among Spanish-style buildings, are used for recreational and sports purposes, as well as training.
Oath of office is an oath or affirmation a person takes before undertaking the duties of an office, usually a position in government or within a religious body, although such oaths are sometimes required of officers of other organizations. Such oaths are often required by the laws of the state, religious body, or other organization before the person may actually exercise the powers of the office or any religious body. It may be administered at an inauguration, coronation, enthronement, or other ceremony connected with the taking up of office itself, or it may be administered privately. In some cases it may be administered privately and then repeated during a public ceremony.

Some oaths of office are a statement of loyalty to a constitution or other legal text or to a person or other office-holder (e.g., an oath to support the constitution of the state, or of loyalty to the king). Under the laws of a state it may be considered treason or a high crime to betray a sworn oath of office.
